With entertainment including a petting zoo, pony rides, ice cream cones, a climbing wall, dancing, live music, chalk art, a bounce house - not to mention face painting and free balloons - there was no reason for kids, and even their parents, to whine "I'm bored."
"It's a great thing for the kids," said Sandy Whittle, who checked out the street party with her husband Mike and their children Michael, 4, and Petra, 6.
Mike agreed.
"I think it's a great idea," he said. "I'd just like to see more of it."
The Krates, a trio of local middle school and high school students, provided the soundtrack to Saturday evening's happenings in the Union Bank parking lot.
"They're good," said Michael Wilson, 5, of Valencia, who rocked out with his dad Larry Wilson.
Auburn Family Night Out is held on the weekend of the longest day of the year, which this year was Thursday, and was created to bring business districts of Old Town and Downtown Auburn together.
See Monday's Auburn Journal for additional coverage.
The krates had a great time performing August 13, 2007 on
Good Day Sacramento. Mark S. Allen interviewed them,
and they were able to announce their upcoming appearances for
the following Charities:
Relay For Life, Auburn, CA on Saturday August 18, 2007 at
the Gold Country Fairgrounds
Derek's Wish
Hard Rock Cafe, Sacramento
Thursday August 30, 2007 @ 7:00 p.m.

The krates would like to clarify one point mentioned in today's
interview. Skip's Music did not provide the equipment for the
band, the members of the krates have proudly acquired
most of their equipment from Encore Music, located in
Auburn, California, and also received music lessons from
some of the top instructors in all of California! (We think
so anyway!) We recommend you visit their website for
all of your musical needs by following the link below.
